This resort would be great for beginners and intermediate. Not crowded and quite large. Couldn't find any really steep terrain which was no good for one of our group.. Limited restaurants. Stay in ichinose unless you want to be stuck in your hotel.... More

We really loved the Nagano area. We spent several days around the prefecture visiting monkey park, Obuse, Hokusai gallery and gardens. The snowboarding on Shiha Kogen was excellent. It was my wife's first experience and she had so much fun.... More

Everything about Shiga Kogen is perfect for a new snowboarder/skier. The runs are wide, with long sweeping mountains, the snow is firm, but soft enough to fall with relative ease. Thus was a great place to get a more Japanese experience of skiiing. Not many tourists and it boasts Japan's highest lift point! And it's still close enough to bus to the snow monkeys. Definitely worth checking out if you want to avoid the Hakuba crowds and get a more traditional experience!... More
