Ski Resorts in Alberta

A ski trip in Alberta wouldn’t be complete without visiting one the SkiBig3 resorts. Sitting in the world-renowned Banff National Park, these three resorts are the best in ski resorts in Alberta as well as some of the best in Canada. They all offer diverse terrain, dry powder, spectacular scenery of the Canadian Rockies and can all be skied on the SkiBig3 pass. A shuttle service is included in the pass so getting between the resorts is hassle-free.

Lake Louise takes the top spot of the three thanks its huge size, epic terrain, incredible scenery including Lake Louise itself. Mount Norquay is much smaller and has more of a local’s vibe but nonetheless offers great skiing. Banff Sunshine has quite a few bragging rights, being the highest ski resort in country with the longest ski season as well!  

While the lodges have facilities, most of the resorts lack on-mountain lodging meaning most skiers will need to stay in the town of Banff, Lake Louise or Canmore. The only exception is the ski-in/ski-out Sunshine Mountain Lodge at Banff Sunshine, the only one in Banff National Park.

• Marmot Basin
• Nakiska

While Marmot Basin and Nakiska don’t receive as much attention as the Banff resorts, they are still some of the best ski resorts in Alberta. Nakiska was built for the alpine events in Calgary’s 1988 Winter Olympics and is conveniently located just 45 minutes drive from Calgary. Marmot Basin is the only ski resort in Jasper National Park and is a bit more remote; 4 hours drive from Edmonton or 5 hours from Calgary.
