Ski Resorts in Utah

They call it the “Greatest Snow on Earth”. And they were confident enough to trademark it. Two things set Utah apart from Colorado and Lake Tahoe: the tons of legendary light and dry powder and the easy accessibility.

Pros

  • 500 in of ‘The Greatest Snow on Earth’ per year, 100 in more than Colorado
  • Easy accessibility: less than 1-hour drive from international airport to most resorts
  • Great for late season skiing

Cons

  • Lower elevation and not as cold as Colorado, making it less ideal for early season skiing
  • Fewer world famous ski resorts than Colorado

Getting there

  • Fly into Salt Lake City International Airport: it’s the main gateway to most Utah ski resorts. Otherwise, for the resorts in the south, consider flying into Provo Airport – it can shave 50 minutes off your journey but you’ll be restricted by the number of flights.
  • Best way to resorts from Salt Lake City International Airport is to drive or take a private transfer. Alternatively, make your way downtown either by bus or light rail before hopping on the UTA Ski Bus to some of the closer resorts. Of the 14 ski resorts, 10 of them can be reached within an hour or so drive.

From resorts hosting freeriding competitions to the largest ski resort in the United States, Utah is filled with irresistible ski areas and choosing just one is going to be tough. That’s why we’ve teamed up with the mountain experts to bring you the best ski resorts in Utah.

If you’ve never skied Utah before, make it your priority to visit these resorts. They will give you a taste of the best that Utah has to offer as between them, you’ll get a great mix of elevation, terrain, and most importantly powder. Each has its own personality from all-rounders to heart-racing terrain.

Both these are often overshadowed by some of their more popular neighbors. But that works to your advantage because it means great skiing without the crowds. They are both medium sized resorts with great snow and a strong local following.

With so many great contenders in Utah it’s hard to stand out among the crowd but we think these resorts deserve a worthwhile mention. Each has its own perks: Deer Valley for its five-star service, Sundance for its family-friendliness and Powder Mountain for – you guessed it – powder.
