Learn more about Snowshoe Mountain
Pros
- Plenty of snow, more than 180 in on average each winter
- Part of the resort is dedicated to challenging trails for advanced skiers
- One of the biggest ski areas in the Mid-Atlantic states
Cons
- Isolated location can mean a long journey to get here
Overall
If you're looking for a big resort experience in the Southeast, Snowshoe is the perfect resort. It has the most terrain and vertical in the Mid-Atlantic along with a village filled with a range of lodges and a whole bunch of great après ski and nightlife choices. There are a few high-speed lifts around but on a holiday weekend, lift queues can get quite long. The terrain is mostly suited for advanced skiers and below and it's also important to note that off-piste skiing is not allowed.

What an amazing resort for the price! Great runs, top notch staff, awesome dining, affordable lodging, family friendly, decent “back country”, great lift layout and lots of fun to be had for everyone.... Moreintermediate snowboarder

Great place for the local DC area. Probably your only choice if you want there to actually be snow when you go. Good snowmaking but terrible location. It would be great if the local area had more than just this ski are.... Moreintermediate skier

Terrible experience. We stayed in a place that was literally falling apart. The door to the patio wouldn't close. Snow was coming into our room. Tried to get maintenance to come fix it, but the guy never showed. Eventually we fixed it ourselves because we were cold. Staff was rude and unhelpful. We ended up leaving a day early it was so bad.... Moreintermediate snowboarder

It tends to be much less crowded than other ski resorts closer to D.C. and also has a better layout overall. Furthermore, the location of the town on top of the mountain means no waiting... Snowshoe is excellent for an east coast resort. The pass is probably the best deal on the east coast. The small town area has great food and shops. Wonderful get away spot. Not the west coast but great riding.... Moreexpert snowboarder

Great place for the family not always a lot of snow and can be extremely crowded on holidays. Plenty of great places to eat and Starbucks has an outside fireplace so you can sit and enjoy your coffee ... Moreintermediate snowboarder

Best resort in the southeast, nothing really even comes close. Lift lines can get extremely long, especially on holiday weekends, but it is the only mountain in southeast where a powder day actually means powder day... Moreintermediate snowboarder
