Learn more about Snowshoe Mountain
Pros
- Plenty of snow, more than 180 in on average each winter
- Part of the resort is dedicated to challenging trails for advanced skiers
- One of the biggest ski areas in the Mid-Atlantic states
Cons
- Isolated location can mean a long journey to get here
Overall
If you're looking for a big resort experience in the Southeast, Snowshoe is the perfect resort. It has the most terrain and vertical in the Mid-Atlantic along with a village filled with a range of lodges and a whole bunch of great après ski and nightlife choices. There are a few high-speed lifts around but on a holiday weekend, lift queues can get quite long. The terrain is mostly suited for advanced skiers and below and it's also important to note that off-piste skiing is not allowed.

This is easily the best place to ski on the lower east coast. My first few days were warm and slushy, but by the last day heavy snowfall moved in and it was incredible.

Snowshoe resort provides without a doubt the best skiing south of Pennsylvania on the East coast. Its high elevation gives it snow that other resorts normally wouldn't get. Odd but fun that the resort is at the summit and not the base of the mountain. Best bet for anyone looking to go from Virginia or North Carolina.... Moreadvanced skier

Snowshoe has it all. The resort has the most runs I have seen at one resort. As a beginner/intermediate skiier I also appreciate that the have a wide variety of green slopes that offer more than you typical straight downhill. They have a huge amount of blues, blacks, and double blacks too though. The snow is always good here too but in short... Morebeginner skier

Snowshoe is where I first skied and where I learned how to ski well. It's a beautiful resort with lots of fantastic terrain. Thanks to the high elevation and proximity to lake effect snow it gets the most powder in the mid-Atlantic. Winter can't come soon enough. Get out and enjoy it!Superb!5 / 5Oct 21, 2017

For the mid-Atlantic Snowshoe is the king, best terrain, best snowmaking, best snowfall... even better if you can manage to go midweek and non-holliday ... plus if you get the ridiculous pass in the spring it is a great bargain! Average!3 / 5Oct 17, 2017

Snowshoe, as far as the southeastern US is concerned, is most definitely the place to be. The improvements made by Intrawest over the years certainly brought it up a few notches, and the new owners will most likely continue that trend. When the meteorological conditions are cooperative Snowshoe is satisfying. I've experienced groomed conditions... MoreSuperb!5 / 5Oct 11, 2017

Best ski resort on the east coast. The only resort I actually love going to and skiing on the east coast. Already looking forward to it being open this year. Will be headed up on first day of opening and already got a house booked for a much needed skication afterwards.
