Pros
  • Plenty of snow, more than 180 in on average each winter
  • Part of the resort is dedicated to challenging trails for advanced skiers
  • One of the biggest ski areas in the Mid-Atlantic states
Cons
  • Isolated location can mean a long journey to get here

Overall

4.6

If you're looking for a big resort experience in the Southeast, Snowshoe is the perfect resort. It has the most terrain and vertical in the Mid-Atlantic along with a village filled with a range of lodges and a whole bunch of great après ski and nightlife choices. There are a few high-speed lifts around but on a holiday weekend, lift queues can get quite long. The terrain is mostly suited for advanced skiers and below and it's also important to note that off-piste skiing is not allowed.

All of my friends think I am nuts for saying lets go south to shred. But for real, the high elevation, placement between the great lakes and the Atlantic ocean make for a noreaster lake effect you have to see to believe. Only down side is getting there, long slow drive with nothing around.... More

Best skiing in the south east. This resort has the best snow and most variety in the region. Lack of cell phone coverage can be an advantage if you let it be.... More

Snowshoe is by far the best place in the east coast to ski south of say NY. They have a ton of terrain and always seem to have plenty open even when the weather isn’t great.... More

Snowshoe is the best mountain within decent drive from the mid Atlantic region. It’s pretty isolated but much larger than any closer resort in the Carolinas or VA. I always have fun there although it has gotten more expensive in recent years. I think some of the appeal was the more rustic lodging but it seems now you pay premium price for that... More

Snowshoe is as good as it gets for the East coast. Consistent, quality snow with a desirable village area. The park crew does an outstanding job updating the parks with different layouts and features. If you’re considering the drive to Snowshoe; pull the trigger. This place is a blast.... More

Ive enjoyed driving to snowshoe From Richmond, Va. for many years which several of those years carrying a season pass. Loved staying at the base in mountain lodge taking advantage of the shuttle service to the slopes. The snow conditions are always great especially for the east coast. Trails: Camp 99 and powdermonkey to me, are the most... More

For Southeast skiing, Snowshoe is legit. Everything you want in a full mountain experience. You can eat up basically an entire day cruising the Western Territory if you have a need for speed. Plenty to offer on the other side of the road as well. Maybe I just miss the best times of the year, but if there was something I'd like to see pick up its... More

Great place for the mid Atlantic snow is good normally but they are at mercy of Mother Nature. Not a lot in terms of stores or grocery near the top of the mountain but personally I love the wilderness aspect of snowshoe. I normally go here at least once a year and and enjoy it... More

Snowshoe has some awesome skiing and their downhill mountain biking is killer. Hard to access, and 70 miles from the nearest Walmart, not my preferred resort to visit, but still a fun place to ski. Corporate practices depreciate the quality of experience at this resort.... More
