Pros
  • Plenty of snow, more than 180 in on average each winter
  • Part of the resort is dedicated to challenging trails for advanced skiers
  • One of the biggest ski areas in the Mid-Atlantic states
Cons
  • Isolated location can mean a long journey to get here

Overall

4.6

If you're looking for a big resort experience in the Southeast, Snowshoe is the perfect resort. It has the most terrain and vertical in the Mid-Atlantic along with a village filled with a range of lodges and a whole bunch of great après ski and nightlife choices. There are a few high-speed lifts around but on a holiday weekend, lift queues can get quite long. The terrain is mostly suited for advanced skiers and below and it's also important to note that off-piste skiing is not allowed.

I learned to ski at Snowshoe about 16 years ago and still love skiing there - my children, the youth group from our church and I have spent our skiing time at Snowshoe many years. We always have good conditions, the slopes are not too crowded and there is a variety of difficulty to suit just about everyone!!!

Snowshoe is the most awesome & cost effective ski trip from SC. It has ample terrain & slopes for everyone. Much easier to get my equipment on a car & ride 8 hours than to fly & rent!!!

This is the only resort I've ever been to (first). It was a great experience and the lodging was excellent.

For my family Snowshoe is part of our extended heritage. My wife and I grew up in Parsons, WV in the beautiful Mononghela National forest which is adjacent to Elkins and the Snowshoe area. We think it is wonderful that the land has been developed because of its natural beauty and we are grateful for the jobs it has brought to the area. My wife and... More

this is my choice mountian because I've worked here 4 seasoons.2 in snowboard school, 2 in terrian park. The staff in ski school is the best...everyone from supervisors to rookies. Their training is top notch and standards are high but there is no egos. Ski/ride school is the best

It is a great location. Even though the temps were zero and below, the area was stunningly beautiful.

Also like the resort being at the top of the Mtn./lifts. Need to open runs earlier on weekends.
